The BARS Launch Crew will be getting to Camp Elmore between 7:30AM and 8:00AM to setup the Tent, the Launch Equipment and Pads. Everyone is invited to help and it is very appreciated.
This is a NAR Sanctioned Event. All NAR Rules are in EFFECT! Let’s have a SAFE DAY!
Please meet our New Range Safety/Launch Control Officer and all around great guy, Scott Siedler.
If you don’t know who Scott is already, he is one of our long time members who thankfully has found the time to join the group every month and has volunteered to share some of the duties that I have been handling since we started. Considering on how we have grown from a few flights to well over 100 at each of our Launches, Scott’s help has long been needed to keep everything organized and safe.
Please say hello to Scott at our next Launch. You will find him running back and forth between the Pads and the Launch Table helping everyone he can. Also take a look at some of the rockets he has built. We can all take some notes on his excellent building and finishing techniques.
And I don’t want to forget Marty, Mike and Bernie and all of our members who always give so much to the group.

Saturday June 2nd, 2012

At this time they have nothing scheduled to hold up our monthly Launches uhttp://www.youtube.com/user/NARBARS/feedn on top of the hill.
Local Rocketry News.
This coming Saturday April 28th, The Florida Spacemodeling Association (FSA) in West Palm Beach will hold their monthly Launch at 11:30 AM. For more information please click on the following link http://fsa-twp.webs.com/
The next BARS Launch will be on Saturday, April 7th, 2012 starting at 9:00AM.
The Homestead Launch is run by a bunch of really great kids. Most are students at Homestead High school and build most of their rockets out of paper towel and larger paper and cardboard tubes. They even make their own nose cones by rolling them out of heavy paper.
If you intend to go to their Launch and have anything to contribute to them such as kits, model rocket parts or cardboard tubing, Etc., please bring it with you or you can also drop off anything at our May 5th Launch and I will get it to them.
Thank you to all of you who continue to donate to our Launch Fund. We will continue to offer a free Model Rocket Kit while supplies last for a $10.00 or higher Donation. (If you want to donate and not take the kit that is OK too) Your voluntary donations help cover our equipment and permit costs and it also allows us not to have to charge Club Dues or monthly per person flight fees which most Rocketry Clubs do. Your continued Donations helps to keep us going by making it possible to get new equipment and keep our current equipment maintained and upgraded.
As I mentioned in the last few E-Mails, We have a big surprise hopefully coming in for our May Launch. I am still not going to give it away just yet but your Donations have made this surprise possible and I thank you all!
If you do join the NAR, please let them know that NAR # 21632/NAR Section # 717 Sent ya! For every new NAR membership that is recommended by BARS, the club Launch Fund gets $5.00 from the NAR. Every little bit helps!
And please forward this E-Mail it to anyone you may think would be interested in joining us.
If you need to purchase motors for our next Launch, please see Bernie who usually shows up at the local launches. Please email him in advance at BENBUZZBOY3@AOL.COM to make arrangements. Bernie is a Dealer for Cesaroni and Aerotech Motors and Hardware. Bernie also carries some parts such as Launch Buttons and other much needed accessories.
P.S. For anyone who is taking digital photos and would like them posted on this site, please contact Marc at firstname.lastname@example.org
P.P.S. Please check out our Vendor list at the top of the page. These Vendors support us and if you can, please support them.
That is all for now. Please keep an eye out for our emails which always lets you know of the local launches.
Broward Area Rocketry News The Next BARS Launch is scheduled for Saturday, April 7th, 2012 starting at 9:00 AM.
I have already checked with Vista View Park and we have been told that Saturday April 7th and Saturday May 5th, 2012 are open for us to have a Launch.
Also, please remember that we are going to start using our new Flight Log Sheets. Your cooperation is welcomed.
Launch Equipment Upgrades! BARS is in the process of upgrading its Ground Support Equipment to give all our flyers a better Flight Experience.
One of the issues we have been having was the inability to point the Launch Rods due to changes in wind position. Bending the Rods were just not the right way to do this.
I am just putting the finishing touches on our Red Six Pad Launch Rack by adding a Swivel Base to each of the Six Pad positions which will allow us to individually point each rod at the correct angle for each launch. I think you will all like this new modification.
We have more surprises set for the May Launch, so stay tuned in!
We have a new Vendor as part of the BARS family and it is Black Dog Rocketry. BDR carry’s many Rocketry Products and Accessories including Rocketflite Magnalite Igniters.
I ask that our Flyers please click on the Vendor Links at the top of the page and support them as they support us.
I will be sending out our usual Launch Reminder next week so please keep a lookout for this email. And please forward it to anyone you may think would be interested in joining us.
Once again I want to thank all of those who continue to make donations to BARS. This keeps us going by making it possible to get new equipment and keep our current equipment maintained and upgraded.
P.S. Being in Rocketry more than likely makes some of us Star Trek fans and just wanted to mention that both William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy have both turned 81 in the past two weeks. Happy birthday to Kirk and Spock!
P.P.S. And to add one more very cool thing that proves that yesterday’s Science Fiction turns into today’s Science.
The Tricorder Project
I can’t thank all you enough for making our Launch Days the success that they have become. We are now getting well over 100 flights plus new faces every month!
When we were a small group, it was much easier to make sure everyone was safe and that our Safety Rules were being followed. Because our group has gotten so large, I find that Broward Area Rocketry has to put some more controls in place to make sure that all of our flyers and spectators remain safe and that our group continues to have a 100% Safety Record.
Starting at our next Launch on Saturday April 7th, 2012 we will be adding a Sign-In Sheet for all people who want to fly a Rocket.
On this sheet we ask you to please to list your Name, Rocket Type/Name Motor Type and Number of Motors and let one of the Range Safety Officers/Launch Control Officers (RSO/LCO) inspect the Rocket to make sure it is safe to fly. We will help you through this new requirement.
When the Pad is ready, I will call a number of people to place their Rocket on a designated Pad Number.
No flyer is to go to any of the Launch Pads with out the OK of one of the Range Safety Officers/Launch Control Officers (RSO/LCO) permission to do so.
I will then call the Owner of the next Rocket that is ready to launch to the Launch Table and after the 3-Count they can Launch their Rocket(s).
The the RCO/LCO will let the Flyer know when they can go recover their Rocket.
Under no circumstances whatsoever will anyone attempt to catch their Rocket before it lands on the ground. This has always been stated in our Safety Rules.
And please note: We ask that no spectators, unless they are helping their child or children at the Pads, be allowed past the main tent on or roam around the field.
This is a big change of how we were doing things and I ask everyone to help make these extra safety regulations work.
We all know that Model Rocketry is one of the safest hobbies that there is and none of us would want to have someone get hurt. This includes a rocketry injury or even someone running around and falling. If that was to happen, we would lose our use of Vista View Park and that would be that.
Also starting at our next event, there will be two RSO’s/LCO’s at the Launch Controller Table that is located under the tent, Myself and Scott Siedler. I am sure most of you have either met or seen Scott who has been an incredible help to our gatherings and has volunteered to keep us all safe and help the group out.
Again, I want to thank you all profusely for your support.
Just wanted to thank all of you who volunteered their own time to help out a really great event on Saturday February, 18th, 2012
Broward Area Rocketry hosted a tent at the Scout event which included some of the nicest Rockets ever seen that were built by our members and guests.
I have to thank the following people with whom this event could not have happened.
First of all, I have to thank Glenn Guarner who got this all going to begin with and none of this would have happened without his help and guidance.
I also have to thank Scott Seidler who went above and beyond helping to setup, breakdown and kept the booth going all day. Scott also came with several of his beautifully built and finished Rockets which our spectators watched fly all day long. Scott was also our photographer of this event and they will be posted in our Gallery Section
A big thanks to Martin Kuck who brought a Static Motor Test Stand which allowed up to show our visitors how a Rocket Motor works at the ground level.
Both Marty and Scott join our monthly launches at Vista View Park and are always helping out. I can’t thanks these two guys enough for all of their help.
Another big thank you to to Mike West and his family for helping out during our day.
And last but not least, a thank you to Mr. Joe Valone who is an educator at Plantation High School who brought some of his students and their TARC and SLI Rockets to show what Mid Power Rocketry is all about.
We also had some excellent Vendor Support From those good people at Flis Kits and Quest Aerospace.
And thanks to the Scouts, Scout Leaders, the people who put on this huge event and Markham Park/Broward County for giving us the opportunity to bring Model Rocketry to all of us here in South Florida!
Here is what’s happening in South Florida Rocketry.
