Dec 302010

I had a typo on the date of the next BARS Launch. The Launch will be on Saturday February 5th, 2011. Not the 6th.

Broward Area Rocketry and Tripoli South Florida wish all of our members and their families a very Happy and Safe New Year!

Here is what’s happening in South Florida Rocketry.

Our use of the High Power Launch Site down in Florida City may not be available till further notice and it would be great if someone knows or has a suggestion for a High Power Launch Field in Miami-Dade, Broward or Palm Beach Counties. Please email us at with any information.

You can also keep up to date at the Tripoli South Florida Website for future Launch dates.

Broward Area Rocketry Society (BARS)
Because the first Saturday of the Month in January falls on New Years Day, we have decided to postpone the official BARS Launch until the first Saturday in February.

The next BARS Launch will be on Saturday February 5th, 2010 starting at 9:00AM.
We will be there by 8:30 to setup the Tent, the Launch Equipment and Pads. Your help is appreciated.

Level 3 Notes:
I am am in the process of completing a custom Giant Leap Liberty 6 for my Tripoli Level 3 Certification. This Rocket uses 6 inch diameter Magna-Frame body tubes, G-10 Fins and a Fiberglass Nose Cone. It is just about 11 feet in height and when finished and loaded with a Cesaroni M1770 Skidmark, the weight should come in around 48 pounds. I have pretty much finished the kit and now I am doing some heavy duty ground testing before I paint.

For Pictures of the build: Click here.

I will be uploading more pictures as I complete the ground testing.

The kit itself was a custom design from Giant Leap Rocketry
It is an upscale of the GLR Liberty 4 which I used for my Level 2 Certification.

If anyone is interested in the RockSim 9 file for this kit, please email me at

I highly recommend Giant Leap as one of Rocketry’s Leading Vendors.

We will catch you all soon!, Marc
