Hello Everyone!

What a great Day we had at our last BARS Launch! We had on and off rain and heavy wind and we still all managed to fly till after 5:00PM!

I cannot thank those of you enough who donated to our Club Launch Fund for what you all did (you know who you are!). As Broward Area Rocketry is not charging any membership or launch fees for the time being, your very kind donations will go far in helping us upgrade our Launch Systems.

For this coming Launch on Saturday April 2nd, every person who makes a donation of $10.00 or more to our Launch Fund, (it can be more, I won’t complain) you will get a FREE Estes Alpha III kit (18.98 retail). Supplies are limited and only one per person please.

For the moment, this is the only Model Rocket Launch Venue available in the South Florida area. Lets all make the most of it! Rocketry is just not all High power! We can all enjoy flying anything from 1/2A’s to G motors.

New Items:
1) New Multi-Pad Launch System
We are still waiting to hear back from Pratt Hobbies on our new Multi-Pad Launch Controller to go with our launch Rack. Each Controller will handle 3 Pads. I am hoping to have them as soon as possible.

I apologize for the long wait for these new units. I will hopefully have an update from our vendor at the next posting.

2) Boy Scouts
Hopefully with better weather, Local Boy Scout Pack #441 in Pembroke Pines will be joining us with their Scout Leaders to fulfill one of their requirements to earn their Scientist Activity Badge. Lets all of us old-timers give a warm welcome to these great group of scouts! This is what Model Rocketry is all about!

Hopefully we will have a bit less wind at our next launch!

As always, I want to give a big thank you to Marty for all of his help and of course Rocket Rick, Neil, Jason and Paul?. (I know I may have gotten a name wrong or left one of our Palm Beachers out). Level 3 Notes:

I have put my Level 3 build on the back burner for the moment until I can figure out where I could launch it.

I will keep you all up to date.

The build is a Giant Leap Liberty 6 for my Tripoli Level 3 Certification. This Rocket uses 6 inch diameter Magna-Frame body tubes, G-10 Fins and a Fiberglass Nose Cone. It is just about 11 feet in height and when finished and loaded with a Cesaroni M1770 Skidmark, the weight should come in around 48 pounds. I have pretty much finished the kit and now I am doing some heavy duty ground testing before I paint.

For Pictures of the build: Click here.

I will be uploading more pictures as I complete the ground testing.

The kit itself was a custom design from Giant Leap Rocketry
It is an upscale of the GLR Liberty 4 which I used for my Level 2 Certification.

If anyone is interested in the RockSim 9 file for this kit, please email me at info@narbars.org

I highly recommend Giant Leap as one of Rocketry’s Leading Vendors.

We will catch you all soon!, Marc

I do want express some big thank you’s for the following people for not only joining us but helping to make it a spectacular day and our best launch to date!

A big thank you to “Rocket Rick” from Tripoli West Palm Beach for helping BARS commemorate the 9th Anniversary of 9/11. Rick was kind enough to help represent BARS in remembrance of that day with his “American Dream” Which is shown below. The rocket besides being patriotic, is a beautiful piece of work!

And also I want to thank our friend Marty of our TSF Group, for being a wealth of help and information, Marty is also helping out BARS with the donation of Launch Rods and Custom made Blast Deflectors. Also, how do you properly thank someone who drives almost three hours round trip and helps you setup and breakdown. I will have to figure that out!

Once again a great time was had by all!

We had a bright blue beautiful sky on Saturday May 8th which gave us our best flight day so far. A big thank you for all the people who showed up to watch and participate!

The next Broward Area Rocketry Society Launch will be posted to the Blog and Calendar when we have a firm date scheduled.

Our sister club, Tripoli South Florida has their monthly High Power Launch scheduled for Sunday May 16th, 2010 starting at 9:30 am. All motor classes from A to N are allowed at this event.

Please check out their site for updated information and directions. Hope to see all of you there! Your family and friends are welcome to watch some incredible high power flights! If you have any model rockets of your own, please bring them with you if you would like to participate. You will also need to bring motors as well which can be purchased from several different hobby shops in the tri-county area. We have all of the launch equipment.

It is going to be a hot day, so please remember to bring sun screen, head cover and water! More information site conditions can be found on their Web Site. Tripoli South Florida

B.A.R.S. Section Updates!

As posted previously, Broward Area Rocketry Society is now officially NAR Section # 717.
All of the paperwork is just about complete and we are just waiting for our flight permits from Broward Parks Department and Vista View Park. Once this is complete, we will be able to schedule our launch days on our own.

We are also looking for other launch sites. If anyone has an idea, please email me at marcftl@narbars.com. Rumor has it that there may be some large fields down of US27 in Broward but I have not gotten down there to check yet.

Since Tripoli South Florida normally has its scheduled launch every third Sunday, I am proposing our Launches be held every first and or forth Saturday of each month. I will be setting up a Poll for this as we tie down the loose ends.

On the Agenda for the future:
Membership Drive
Club Meetings
Club Dues
Flight Cards
Needed Launch Equipment (I am sure we can build most of it as we need it)
Advertising B.A.R.S at local Hobby Shops with our launch schedule.
Possible Club Sponsors (We already have 3doto.com but can use more)

Membership

To be a member of B.A.R.S, you must also be a NAR Member. Click on National Association Of Rocketry to find out more and join!

And finally, we wish the best of luck for the students of Plantation High School who will shortly be on their way to Virginia and the Team America Rocketry Challenge, Go get’em Mr. Vallone!
